Summary


This Footcare Assistant Apprenticeship involves part of a highly motivated Community Podiatry Team , providing foot-care, orthotic manufacture and administrative duties. As part of the position you will need to complete Support Worker ( Foot care Assistant) Podiatry Apprenticeship level 5 . In house training will be given on orthotic manufacture. While completing the apprenticeship you will be working as a foot care assistant undertaking basic nail care and orthotics/insole manufacture

This is a development post Band 3 Fixed Term with potential offer of a band 4 Footcare/Support worker post on successful completion of the apprenticeship.

The service provides foot care to patients with a number of Podiatric and medical conditions such as; Diabetes, Neuropathy, Chronic diseases, ’Wound management, musculoskeletal conditions and Terminally ill patients
• To provide nail/ core podiatry care to patients pre -assessed by a podiatrist
• To undertake the manufacture of insoles and orthotics
• To assist and carryout wound dressing as directed by podiatrists
• To assist in nail surgery and undertake nail surgery dressings.
• To provide administration support to community based podiatry service.
• To be involved in departmental audits
• Behave consistently with the values and beliefs of the organisation and promotes these on day to day basis.
• To carry out home visits
• Act as a role model to colleagues, always seeking to maintain the highest standards of professionalism

• To provide nail care/dressings to patients including high risk patients within the podiatry department. Provide Core Podiatry care on completion of apprenticeship (under supervision of a podiatrist.
• To undertake/ assist in the manufacture of insoles and orthotics following prescription by Podiatrist following inhouse training. To issue and advise on Orthotic/Insoles.
• To identify the risk status of feet including patients with diabetes and undertake appropriate action e.g. inform podiatrist
• To treat high risk patient with conditions such diabetes, neuropathy, wounds and other chronic diseases
• To assist with nail surgery, preparation and dressings.
• To be involved in infection prevention and control, health and safety; this would include cleaning the clinical areas, monitoring of appointment availability, identification of adequate stock levels, maintenance of equipment .
• To undertake administrative duties to ensure effective patient care; e.g. stocks, accurate record keeping, keep abreast of emails, requesting and helping with appointment scheduling.
• To ensure that Health and Safety Legislation is complied with at all times including COSHH, Temperature readings in clinic, Workplace Risk Assessment and Infection Prevention Control and waste disposal.
• To achieve and provide evidence Support Worker Apprenticeship at level 5.
• Complete inhouse Orthotic/insole manufacture and Care certificate completion if not held.
