The Role
A vibrant, two form entry primary school in Manor Park is seeking a committed Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support pupils in its Early Years Foundation Stage. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to deliver individualised support that enables every child—particularly those with ASD, speech & language needs or global developmental delay—to thrive socially, emotionally and academically.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 and small group support, adapting activities to match pupils’ EHCP targets
• Use visual timetables, Makaton, PECS or other AAC tools to scaffold communication
• Foster a safe, nurturing environment that encourages independence and positive behaviour
• Liaise daily with class teacher, SENCo and parents/carers, delivering concise progress updates
• Keep accurate notes to inform reviews and outside agency meetings
• Contribute to continuous provision by setting up inviting, sensory rich EYFS learning zones
About You
• Essential: Recent experience supporting children with SEN in an EYFS or primary setting
• Sound knowledge of EYFS curriculum and child centred play based approaches
• Confident using strategies for ASD, communication disorders and sensory needs
• Proactive, resilient and able to stay calm under pressure
Additional requirements:
o References confirming suitability for role
o Commitment to Safeguarding
o Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service
o Eligibility to work in the UK
