This is a pivotal role that combines hands-on delivery of insightful management information (MI), with operational oversight of key business processes and systems.
You will use your deep understanding of data, systems, and business requirements to deliver regular and ad hoc MI, support operational performance, and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
You will:
Lead the development and delivery of MI solutions across multiple functions particularly complex, high-risk/high-impact areas.
Shape and deliver operational reporting and analysis in line with business goals, user needs, and statutory obligations.
Use advanced Excel (including VBA), Power BI, and SQL to extract, transform and visualise data from various sources.
Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of regular MI reports, dashboards and insight packs to internal and external stakeholders.
Translate complex data into clear narratives and actionable insights for a variety of audiences, including senior leaders and operational teams.
Manage and maintain key operational processes and support tools, driving efficiencies through automation and smarter use of data.
Contribute to the planning and implementation of new reporting solutions and support continuous improvement of MI capabilities.
Collaborate with policy, operational and digital colleagues to ensure data supports strategic aims and delivers value.
Lead on the documentation and continuous refinement of MI processes and support procedures to ensure clarity, accuracy and business continuity.
Provide MI and system insight in support of strategic reviews, policy development, business cases and audits.
Manage and prioritise competing demands, escalating issues where necessary to mitigate risks and ensure service delivery.
Deputise for the Senior MI Manager, providing leadership and oversight in their absence, and ensuring continuity of service and stakeholder confidence.
You will act as the MI lead and operational support specialist for operations and will be responsible for liaising across delivery teams, business units, and contracted partners to ensure that data-driven decision making and operational efficiency are embedded at all levels.
MI & Operational Support Managers will:
Coordinate with business owners to define requirements and deliver solutions that meet evolving needs.
Work closely with IT, delivery teams and senior leadership teams to optimise access to data and reporting tools.
Design and maintain Power BI dashboards and underlying data models to ensure accurate and consistent reporting.
Lead or contribute to system change requests, including requirements gathering, user testing, training, and post-implementation review.
Engage with contractors and third-party suppliers where required to ensure service standards and contractual obligations are met.
Maintain detailed records of data definitions, methodologies, processes and outputs to ensure transparency and audit readiness.
Review and improve data flows, collection methods, and data quality controls, working with stakeholders to resolve issues.
Support live service operations, incident management, and change governance activities relating to MI systems and tools.
This role requires strong communication and organisational skills, as you will work across a broad stakeholder landscape, including policy makers, operational teams, IT colleagues and external partners.
MI & Operational Support Managers are also expected to:
Provide line management, coaching and support to junior team members.
Support cross-government or inter-departmental initiatives relating to data and operational performance.
Represent your business area at internal and external meetings, workshops, and working groups to share best practice and influence direction.
Maintain a strong focus on continuous improvement and digital transformation, particularly through automation and self-service reporting.
