Summary
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.
This post will include responsibility for patients within our metabolic bone service, and across a broad spectrum of rheumatology. There will be considerable opportunity to be involved with the development of the metabolic bone service, to forge closer links with colleagues in other specialities, reflecting the diverse nature of metabolic bone medicine. The service delivers both local and regional specialised commissioned services, including as part of the NHSE Adult Rare Bone Disease Network. This post will also include work within general rheumatology, including the Inflammatory Arthritis Service, with participation in the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit. There will be the opportunity to join our Connective Tissue Disease and Vasculitis service, if desired. The successful applicant will be responsible for a mixed caseload including new patients, and some follow up patients from the cohorts of consultants who have retired. The role will involve our regular multidisciplinary team meetings, supporting our specialised commissioned services and regional advice provision.
We have a busy dedicated musculoskeletal outpatient department (including Xray facilities and DXA scanners), a day case unit and in patient beds.

The post includes contribution to the low frequency rheumatology on-call service for speciality referrals only and management of a small number of in patients.
Our team currently comprises 17 NHS consultant rheumatologists (10 WTE), and following significant new investment from the Trust, expansion of our medical and specialist nursing team is currently in progress. Five of the current consultant team hold academic consultant posts.
This post is to join one of our current rheumatology consultants who has a special interest in metabolic bone medicine. A new consultant will be supported to develop their own interests and subspeciality within metabolic bone medicine

· The successful candidate will share responsibility for running and ensuring best practice in our rheumatology and metabolic bone services. This will include supervision and training of junior doctors, clinical nurse specialists, clinical pharmacists, and AHPs
· Active contribution to the multidisciplinary team meetings (where relevant this can include for inflammatory arthritis, AxSpA, metabolic bone, radiology, histopathology plus local and regional CTD MDT meetings)
· Provision of long term care to an existing cohort of patients and management of new referrals.
· Contribute medical support to the multidisciplinary team and ensure training and safety standards are met.
· Set up regular audit and quality improvement cycles.
· Once established in the clinical role, aim to develop the department’s engagement and participation with teaching across the medical undergraduate and graduate curriculum and support supervision and clinical oversight of AHP and nursing departmental teaching.
