An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the JCCC Commemorations team as an Administrative Officer. Due to the work carried out, this high-profile team has become affectionately known as the MOD War Detectives. This work is underpinned by the admin support role.
The work of the team makes a real difference to the families of historic casualties and our administrative officer supports our caseworkers. This role is busy, interesting and extremely rewarding, no two days are ever the same.
You will travel overseas approximately 4 to 6 times a year and work with a variety of stakeholders and family members.
This role is office based however, DBS are working hard to improve our access to, and use of, digital technology, empowering our people to work remotely.
Main responsibilities:
Undertaking the administration for commemorative services for Service Personnel killed in historic conflicts from WW1 onwards, where human remains are discovered, or identities proven.
Booking and coordinating travel for the JCCC Commemorations team, Service Personnel and sponsored family members and the completion of all required clearances and permissions.
File management of electronic records on Sharepoint, and management of legacy paper records held in archives.
Monitor the JCCC Commemorations team group mailbox and respond to queries and assist in responding to Ministerial correspondence.
Undertake research into non-commemoration cases.
Travelling overseas for commemorative services approximately 4 to 6 times a year, including driving, administrative and hosting duties.
When needed assist with the administration of the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986, including maintenance of the database, responding to licence applications, liaising with other government departments, civil authorities and landowners.
This is a Fixed-term Appointment as the Commemorations Team Administrative Support in the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to a career break being taken by member of the team. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 24 months after that date. You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy. If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 23 months). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information. If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan you will return to your home (OGD) department. If a loan cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA policy for further information.
