Primary Purpose of the role

To provide support and guidance to pupils (and staff working with them) by removing the barriers to learning in order to promote effective participation, enhance individual learning, and raise aspirations to achieve their full potential. This role also includes covering classes across school at a TA3 level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentoring and Support: Develop and maintain supportive mentoring relationships with pupils, staff, and external agencies.
  • Early Intervention: Identify early signs of disengagement and implement interventions to encourage re-engagement with school life. Monitor attendance, identify pupils at risk of exclusion, and address issues impacting pupil well-being.
  • Individualised Support: Develop and implement personalised action plans for individual and groups of pupils, addressing behaviour, motivation, and academic achievement.
  • Liaison and Collaboration: Liaise with staff, parents, carers, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support. Facilitate access to specialist support services and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Transition Support: Assist pupils in transitioning between key stages, including secondary school liaison.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of pastoral care policies, including the School Pupil Behaviour Policy.
  • Safeguarding: Be a first point of contact for child protection issues, providing appropriate responses.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyse data to identify areas of concern and contribute to child protection referrals.
  • Training and Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices and provide training and coaching to staff on supporting challenging pupils.
  • Community Liaison: Develop and maintain relationships with the local community, addressing concerns and resolving issues.
  • Work Placement Coordination: Arrange work placements for students from secondary schools and colleges.
  • Covering Classes: This means you'll be responsible for supervising and managing a class in the absence of the regular teacher.
