Summary

Job Advert

This role provides an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to lead Falkirk Council’s dynamic regulatory Environmental Health and Trading standards service.

Given Grangemouth’s status as the largest port in Scotland, handling 9 million tonnes of cargo each year, this role represents one of the country’s most interesting and diverse areas to protect the health and safety of people and the environment.

As our Environmental Health & Trading Standards Manager, you will lead a large dedicated team of professionals, overseeing a wide range of environmental health functions, including food safety, health and safety, environmental protection, and public health initiatives.

You will also have responsibility for assisting in the development and co-ordination of a range of reports, programmes and projects which will address relevant legislation and regulatory obligations. Given the financial pressures faced by the public sector the successful candidate will also need to be able to identify efficiencies and potential income generation.

You will have a degree in Environmental Health and chartered status with the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS). You will also have a track record of successful leadership and management, and strong knowledge of environmental health legislation and regulations and excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

If you are the successful candidate, you will be required to carry out a Disclosure Scotland check.

Reporting directly into the Head of Growth, Planning, Sport & Culture, you will also play a key role as part of the wider Senior Management Team within Place services directorate.

Further details of the key responsibilities and requirements are shown in the job description.

If you are passionate about environmental health and ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role, we would love to hear from you. For an informal discussion regarding this vacancy please contact Head of Growth, Planning, Sport & Culture michael.mcguinness@falkirk.gov.uk in the first instance.
