Location & Terms of appointment

This is a permanent post based in either Edinburgh (Queen Elizabeth House) or London (Dover House). Please note the role will require regular travel across Scotland to attend site visits, key meetings and deliver the City Region and Growth Deal programme.

Salary and Grade

This post is Band B (SEO).

New entrants to the Civil Service will be expected to join on the minimum of the pay range.

Existing Civil Servants will have their salary calculated in accordance with the Department’s pay on transfer / pay on promotion rules.

Background

The Scotland Office supports the Secretary of State for Scotland in promoting the best interests of Scotland within a stronger United Kingdom. It ensures Scottish interests are fully and effectively represented at the heart of the UK Government, and the UK Government’s responsibilities are fully and effectively represented in Scotland. We are also custodians of the devolution settlement.

The City Region and Growth Deals team is responsible for delivery of twelve City Region and Growth Deals worth £1.5 billion across all parts of Scotland and promoting UK Government policy interests across this programme, including interactions with local government, partners and other key stakeholders. The team is headed by a Grade 6 role and two Grade 7s. The team works closely with other Scotland Office Divisions and our external stakeholders, including the Scottish Government (with whom we jointly manage the Deals programme), to support UK Government objectives.

Role Purpose

The City Region and Growth Deals Team is looking for an individual with an interest in delivering for local places, programme and project management skills, a positive and collaborative approach to work, and creative problem solving skills. Along with your colleagues, you will be responsible for UK Government delivery of City Region and Growth Deals. The post holder will also ensure Scotland Office Ministers are kept up to date with key activities in Scotland, and support the promotion of UK Government policy in Scotland.

This role provides an exciting and unique opportunity to work on a high-profile growth programme in Scotland. The Deal programme ranges from significant infrastructure investments to smaller scale community projects.

Another key focus of the role is building relationships with Local Authorities, City Region and Growth Deal project leads, the Scottish Government and their agencies, a range of UK Government Departments and a range of private and public sector stakeholders.

To support the team’s fast-paced work, you will work across a number of projects and policy priorities. The team works flexibly, and we adjust our priorities and responsibilities as needed to respond to a dynamic environment and ensure we can deliver on the UK Governments our local growth mission.
