Summary
Job Summary
The Data Centre Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the data centre, ensuring that all systems, equipment, and infrastructure are functioning optimally. This role involves managing a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring the safety and reliability of critical systems, and maintaining the facility’s operational efficiency. The Data Centre Manager will also be responsible for capacity planning, maintenance, disaster recovery, and supporting the organization’s overall IT strategy.

Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management:
o Oversee the daily operations of the data centre, ensuring uptime and optimal performance of hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
o Ensure that all data centre services, including power, cooling, and security, meet the required standards.
o Manage the physical and virtual environments of the data centre to maximize uptime and operational efficiency.
o Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure efficiency, uptime, and other operational metrics.
2. Team Leadership and Development:
o Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, ensuring a high level of expertise and service.
o Schedule regular training and development opportunities for team members.
o Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment to ensure smooth operations.
3. Capacity Planning and Resource Management:
o Plan, manage, and forecast data centre capacity requirements, ensuring the infrastructure can meet current and future business demands.
o Oversee the procurement and deployment of new equipment and technologies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
o Optimize the use of space, power, and cooling to maximize efficiency.
4. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
o Ensure the data centre complies with industry standards, regulations, and company policies regarding safety, security, and environmental impact.
o Regularly perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential risks such as system failures, power outages, and other emergencies.
o Oversee disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring quick recovery from unplanned downtime.
5. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
o Oversee the preventive maintenance schedule for all data centre equipment, including servers, network devices, and storage systems.
o Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues related to infrastructure, hardware, software, and network systems.
o Liaise with vendors and suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure equipment is running at optimal levels.
6. Budgeting and Cost Control:
o Develop and manage the data centre budget, ensuring that costs are within the allocated limits.
o Identify areas for cost optimization while maintaining high-quality services and reliability.
7. Security and Monitoring:
o Implement and enforce data centre security protocols, including physical security measures and network security to protect sensitive data and assets.
o Utilize monitoring tools to track system performance and detect anomalies or potential issues proactively.
o Ensure disaster recovery plans are in place and regularly tested.
8. Reporting and Documentation:
o Maintain accurate records and documentation regarding data centre operations, performance, and incidents.
o Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on data centre status, performance, and any operational issues.

Required Qualifications
• Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience:
o 5+ years of experience in a data centre or IT infrastructure management role, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or management capacity.
o Proven experience in managing critical IT systems, infrastructure, and teams in a data centre environment.
• Skills:
o Strong knowledge of data centre operations, including network systems, servers, storage, and virtualization technologies.
o Experience with data centre management software and tools.
o Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and hardware issues.
o In-depth understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
o Knowledge of industry best practices, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements.
