LEEDS TEACHING HOSPITAL NHS TRUST JOB DESCRIPTION JOB DETAILS Job Title: Ambulatory Chemotherapy Clinical Fellow Grade: Clinical Fellow (HST Level) Specialty/Department: Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Site and Location: Leeds Childrens Hospital INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The post is based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital at the Leeds General Infirmary in the heart of the city. Specialty Doctors are an integral part of our Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Department. Some of our Specialty Doctors have been with us for over ten years, while others have used the experience gained through working in the post as a stepping-stone to a consultant post after gaining the CCT. Leeds Teaching Hospitals is one the largest teaching hospital trusts in Europe, with access to leading clinical expertise and medical technology. We care for people from all over the country as well as the 780,000 residents of Leeds itself. The Trust has a budget of £1 billion. All of Leeds tertiary paediatric services are based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital, which is one of the largest specialist facilities for children in the UK and offers regional and supra-regional expertise. The Childrens, Teenage and Young Adult Haematology and Oncology Service has won national awards and is a dynamic clinical, training and research unit. This current project is to improve patient experience during chemotherapy by developing ambulatory treatment. Leeds itself is the fastest growing city in the UK and is a thriving and vibrant environment. There are excellent road, rail and air transport links, and the Yorkshire Dales are within close reach of the centre. MEDICAL STAFF IN THE DEPARTMENT The consultant team comprises: Dr Susan Picton (Lead Clinician), Dr Mike Richards, Dr Martin Elliott, Prof Bob Phillips, Dr Simone Wilkins, Dr Beki James, Dr Danielle Ingham, Dr Chris Lethaby, Dr Jacob Grinfeld, Dr Amy Ruffle, Dr Hema Doss and Dr Jess Morgan in providing the regional paediatric oncology and haematology service. Additionally, we have four specialty doctors based in the day unit and on the wards. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Please see Person Specification DUTIES OF THE POST The post holder will work with the project nurse and with the pharmacy project lead to develop ambulatory chemotherapy for our patients. This is a two-year fixed term project, which we anticipate will develop a service which will become standard of care. Working 2 days a week (0.4 FTE) on this project, initially the post holder will develop a project plan for the ambulatory chemotherapy service. The second phase will be to implement the plan, to carry out the patient consent for participation and to supervise the initiation of ambulatory treatment on a Monday and Tuesday. The post holder will supervise the medical care of the patients on treatment and will review the outcomes after each course has been administered later in the week. The post holder will communicate with the rest of the inpatient and day unit team and will provide written summaries for the parent, the GP and the local paediatrician where appropriate.
