Summary


There 2 new Consultant roles within the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology,the appointed candidate(s) will join an existing team of 8senior medical staff includingConsultants & SAS doctors. There are 4 endoscopy rooms in the GWH site ,screening (ERCP/stenting) is done in Radiology department.

There are plans for a 2 room Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon the successful candidate will cover both the GWH and the CDC site , likely to be operational Jan 2025. The job plan will include covering this site. We use the latest Olympus scopes and stacks for both sites On joining the department, you will become part of a well-established, friendly team and will help us continue to drive forward improvements in the service we provide to our patients.

As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision of our junior colleagues. GWH offers ERCP EUS BCSP Small Bowel Capsule endoscopy Oesophageal dilatation and 1 GA list/month with plans to commence Oesophageal stenting is currently done in radiology with plans to incorporate this in gastroenterology screening lists in the future. We have 4 Clinical endoscopists 3WTE IBD and 2 WTE Hepatology nurses .IBD MDT is held fortnightly and benign gastroenterology MDT weekly. There are plans to introduce Oesophageal Physiological studies, Breath tests and trans nasal endoscopy .Interest in Nutrition /IBD/Hepatology will be encouraged. The successful appointee would be encouraged to develop and lead asubspecialty interest. Upper GI andHPBcancer is managed collaboratively with John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford .The successful candidate will be offered an secretary and office space. Our MDT’s are well supported by pathology radiology and surgeons .We work closely with our surgical and radiology colleagues.

An ERCP/EUS co-ordinator is being recruited with the intention of starting a clinically led Jaundice clinic .We are located inthe main Hospital building, which has excellent travel links (including good onsite parking), with many cities within easy range.

The Trust is located on the edge of Swindon with access to a variety of outstanding areas to live which include both urban or village areas with short commutes to the site.

The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

Core Clinical Duties:
• Multidisciplinary team working is key component of the working within the Trust and involves regular MDT discussions with colleagues
• Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support)
• Development of sub specialty interests that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
• Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties are required, and for contributing to undergraduate and post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
• Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues’ periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
• Participation in clinical audit, Morbidity and Mortality meetings Clinical Governance and in continuing medical education.
• Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
• The post holder will participate in an out of hours GI bleed rota, detailed within the job plan section currently 1:7 (1:9 following appointments )
