Summary
Develop and implement robust safeguarding policies and procedures in line with legal requirements and best practices and monitor compliance with these. Report any failure to comply with policy, breaches of process or safeguarding concerns / incidents to the leadership team and external agencies. Provide competent expert advice and guidance to staff, volunteers, and the leadership team on safeguarding matters and available resources. Plan and conduct risk assessments to identify potential safeguarding concerns. Make safeguarding referrals within 24 hours of receipt. Collaborate with relevant agencies, local authorities, and law enforcement to take timely and appropriate action to address safeguarding issues effectively. Manage any immediate actions required to ensure an individual at risk is safe from harm. Support survivors of abuse or exploitation, ensuring their rights and dignity are respected. Arrange for appropriate welfare support for any St John Ambulance Cymru staff member of volunteer under investigation. Work collaboratively with the National Training Manager to identify training needs relating to safeguarding. Design and deliver training programmes and other activities, which are aligned with national standards, and which raise awareness and enhance safeguarding knowledge across the charity. To lead on safeguarding related projects across the charity as necessary. Support the Head of HR to ensure that St John Ambulance Cymru recruitment policies and practices promote good practice in relation to safeguarding e.g. safer recruitment practices and vetting checks. Work with the National Volunteer Manager, the Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Officer and the HR team to develop appropriate induction programmes which support effective safeguarding practices and promote an ethos of professional curiosity. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safeguarding cases. Prepare and present regular management information for the Head of HR and the People Committee. Lead the recruitment of volunteer Safeguarding Co-ordinators in all counties across Wales. Participate in relevant networks and forums to stay informed about developments in safeguarding practice, some of which may take place outside of normal working hours. Liaise and co-ordinate with colleagues and external agencies to support the development of safeguarding provision, share good practice and plan collaborative activities. Promote an open culture where people are encouraged to speak up. Manage a Volunteer Safeguarding Lead and a team of Safeguarding Co-ordinators (staff and volunteers). Manage on-call duty arrangements of the safeguarding mailbox and the on-call phone, which operates from 10am until 10pm.
