As one of the largest and most ambitious Trusts in England, MFT has created new and exciting opportunities for experienced leaders, already established as a board member within a large complex NHS organisation, to join our Trust Leadership Team as a Clinical Group Chief Executive. Reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer and working collaboratively with Executive colleagues, the ideal candidates will provide inspirational leadership, with strong values that match ours and role model an unwavering drive to deliver the strategic ambition of the Trust as an anchor organisation in healthcare for the city of Manchester and borough of Trafford.

These are rare and exciting opportunities for a talented individual to achieve amazing people focused developments in one of the most vibrant and ambitious Trusts in England.

As a key member of the Trust’s Leadership team, you will join the Trust at an exciting time following the launch of our new Organisational Strategy, a refresh of our Operating Model, and the development of a multi-year Financial Recovery Plan.

The Clinical Group Chief Executives are pivotal roles to our future success as we push to improve the care and services for the people of Manchester, Trafford, and beyond. Each role will provide highly credible and visible operational and strategic leadership and will have full responsibility for the effective delivery of services within the Clinical Group. There are six clinical groupings in total, four of which are open for you to consider – Manchester Royal Infirmary, North Manchester General Hospital, Specialist Hospitals (St Mary’s, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital), and Clinical & Scientific Services. Each of these clinical groups are significant operating units of the Trust.

Drawing on Chief Executive or Executive Director experience in an NHS Trust within a comparative large and complex healthcare organisation, you will lead the Clinical Group Senior Leadership Team to ensure a relentless focus on operational delivery and provision of safe, high quality and efficient patient services across the Clinical Group, together with providing the very best experience and working environment for our people.

MFT is one of England’s largest NHS Trusts with a turnover of £2.8bn & is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We’re creating an exceptional integrated health & social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.

Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 28,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We’ve also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research, and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our Electronic Patient Record system which launched in September 2022.

We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What’s more, we’re excited to be embarking on our Green Plan which sets out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.

On this page you will find a Role Profile which provides information about MFT and full details of the Chief Executive opportunities across four of our Clinical Groups. We recommend that you review this and refer to it as you complete your application. In order to apply, please submit a comprehensive CV along with a covering letter which sets out your interest in the role and encapsulates the aspects of your experience relevant to the required criteria.
