Summary
A Vacancy at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a full-time Clinical Fellow in Diabetes and Endocrinology based at Aintree University Hospital.
The Trust has been recently formed from the merger of Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. We are the main providers of general hospital services to a population of approximately 700,000 people, and deliver a portfolio of specialist services (e.g. renal transplantation, for Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man) to a regional population of over two million.
Aintree, Broadgreen and the Royal host several recognised centres of excellence which attract research and innovation into the city.
The persons appointed will be based at Aintree University Hospital initially, and will be a member of the Diabetes & Endocrinology Directorate.
This post would be suitable for a candidate with a specialist qualification (CCT) in Diabetes and Endocrinology & General Internal Medicine. Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualifications, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practise and listed on the Specialist Register or due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.
This post will support the successful candidate in developing a specialist interest in diabetes and endocrinology through regular outpatient clinic activity, and audit and project work.
The appointee, together with his or her colleagues will have a commitment to the provision of acute and general medical care on ward 20. The fixed clinical sessions will include at least one weekly outpatient clinic (hospital or community), which will rotate between various specialty clinics in the department to allow the appointee to gain a breadth of experience in the specialty. These sessions will be agreed with the post holder after appointment to reflect their own interests and service requirements.
Project work and audit will be facilitated and supervised as part of the role with the aim of cultivating and enhancing a specialist interest in diabetes and endocrinology.
A varied programme of lectures and seminars in a wide variety of specialities is organised by the Postgraduate Centre and these are well supported by hospital medical staff. There are monthly Clinical Grand Rounds and Clinical Audit meetings. In addition, there is a weekly diabetes departmental meeting and a weekly departmental junior doctors teaching session in the Diabetes Centre.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.
The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.
