This exciting post would be suitable for an ST1-2 level or more senior equivalent who has completed Foundation training or core medical training (or equivalent), and wishes to gain further experience in Stroke Medicine or Neurology, perhaps with a view to pursuing related ST3 training.

The post holder will work a 1:12 full-shift resident oncall rota shared between 8 stroke juniors and 4 neurology juniors. The rota is EWTD compliant with compensatory off days and flexible annual leave.

Daytime duties in neurology will include covering the neurology in-patients (10 beds), weekly outpatient clinics, and covering the programmed investigations unit including day case lumbar punctures.

Daytime duties in stroke will include the care of in-patients on the Hyperacute Stroke Unit (12 beds) and the Acute Stroke Unit (14 beds), TIA clinics and attending emergency calls for thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.

Out of hours, the post holder covers the inpatient stroke and neurology beds and deals with new admissions including thrombolysis calls from A&E with support from a HASU retrieval nurse (24/7 rota) and full consultant support on both sides.

All departments have on-going clinical audit projects. There are numerous educational opportunities at the Royal London Hospital.
