Summary


We are excited to be able to offer a Band 7 opportunity within our Senior Nursing Team on our renowned Cardiothoracic Paediatric Critical Care Unit at the Freeman Hospital.

The successful candidate will be an experienced children’s nurse providing leadership to the nursing team and able to prove a high level of achievement, motivation, and enthusiasm in their current role, with extensive experience in a children’s critical care unit that provides cardiothoracic services.

They will be keen to progress demonstrating a keen understanding of the unique challenges of a PICU whilst remaining professional, resilient, optimistic, and resourceful.

• The Senior Sister / Charge Nurse has 24 hour accountability, including line managing, for their ward / department. They must deliver quality nursing care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to ensure the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
• Deputises for Matron / Deputy Matron as required / appropriate.

The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle is the centre for children’s cardiac services.

We are proud of our service and our friendly team support our local children in the North East and Cumbria undergoing surgery and treatment for congenital heart conditions and are commissioned to provide ECMO. We host National supra specialist programmes of care and are only one of two centres in the country undertaking Cardio- pulmonary transplantation and bridge to transplant services for children and young people through Ventricular Assist Device technologies.

Our facilities at Freeman Hospital include a PICU and an 18 bedded ward incorporating a 6 bedded HDU and children's cardiac clinic.
