Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to become a member of our Theatre team at Freeman Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and skilled ward clerk to join either team. The successful candidates will possess excellent management and leadership skills working within a large multidisciplinary team.

The Ward Clerk will be based in an office located within theatres where the successful candidate will spend most of their time in a very busy and dynamic area. You will promote an environment conducive to good communication welcoming all visitors to our theatre suites consisting of 43 theatres RVI & 20 theatres Freeman Hospital covering a variety of specialities.

You would be required to work independently as well as part of a team enjoying the hustle and bustle with numerous interruptions and quick changes in prioritising workload.

This role incorporates supporting Matron and senior nursing staff, as well as interacting with a large number of Multidisciplinary team members. Interacting with patients, relatives and visitors to the theatres, dealing with telephone enquiries, computer data input, working in Trust computer programmes including E-record, WardWatcher, Schapp, and Allocate Healthroster 11 ensuring data protection is complied with, monitoring and ordering department stock items.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, effective organisation and time management skills and have a good standard of English, grammar, punctuation and spelling at GCSE or equivalent level.

To provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support to the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.

Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.


Ensures case notes, investigations, X-rays and results are available for new
admissions, ward rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings.


To ensure that case notes are correctly maintained following departmental
guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc).Ensuring PAS system is up to date and accurate.

Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.
