About the Role

Base Location: Flexible Scotland, however our preference is that you will be based in Glasgow Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness sites.

Job Title: Accountant - Capital Projects

This role will be responsible for supporting the financial aspects of the Transmission Capital Investment programme, at an exciting time of growth within the industry. We are currently in the third year of this 5 year price control for Electricity Transmission (RIIO-T2) and we have a long term plan to take the business forward as we look towards RIIO-T3 and deliver our RIIO-T2 commitments to support the overall Group. We are on course to invest over £7bn in our RIIO-T2 period and have committed to delivering a significant spend beyond, to meet our net zero 2030 goal.

This role will require the you to support the Transmission Capital Investment programme working closely as part of a small team with Transmission Capital Investment Finance Managers and other key internal stakeholders. This requires significant financial discipline to underpin decision making, ensure strong financial compliance with policies and drive value and efficiency. You will need to understand the nature of our regulatory obligations under our RIIO price controls is necessary to succeed in this role. Working closely with the Capital Investment Finance Managers and Head of Finance for Transmission Investment will be key, as well as providing the support and challenge to finance and operational colleagues.

You will be required to work using your own initiative, understand complex issues, problem solve and convey this succinctly and clearly to make informed decisions and strategy. This is a varied and challenging role with other responsibilities including:

- Providing insight and understanding the risks and opportunities in capital projects while ensuring compliance with our obligations and corporate governance.

- Coordinating, collating, reviewing project forecasts and delivering reports identifying the key financial drivers behind projects.

- Completing month end closedown activities and preparing and presenting management accounts.

- Representing finance during project review boards, working closely with project teams, and being a key member in the delivery of projects within budget and on time.

- Completing capital investment appraisals and reviewing business cases to aid in optimising the capital investment programme.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Appropriate Accounting qualification (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA).

- Have experience and knowledge of working with capital project investments, creating and delivering reports to finance and non-finance colleagues and conveying messages which can be complex.

- Be pro-active and diligent in their approach and be willing to undertake challenging tasks sometimes beyond their 'comfort zone.

- Be confident and articulate with the willingness to challenge and support colleagues and the business in a constructive and supportive manner.

- Able to work to tight timescales, under pressure and deliver to a high standard.
