Summary

We are seeking applications for a Research Assistant in Smart Agriculture to support the management of UKRI funded projects. The role is part of two large interdisciplinary projects “SmartFertiliser” and “MobilePest” funded by InnovateUK. SmartFertiliser aims at developing an AI-empowered, farmer-centred, interoperable mobile-cloud system “ParallelFarm” that offers access, collection, aggregation, and analysis of farming data using various AI models that improves fertiliser use efficiency and soil health. MobilePest has developed a mobile app that integrates contextual and visual information with AI models for pest detection, highlights current threshold for the identified pest, and provides information on the insecticide resistant status of regional pest populations. You will be working with Dr Po Yang at the Sheffield Pervasive Computing (PC) Group. The post includes collaboration opportunities with both UK industrial partners (Velcourt, Mutus-tech) and Harper Adams University.

You will help us to develop these techniques and assist project management and dissemination. This will involve close collaboration with our partners in industry. You will develop your knowledge of smart and sustainable agriculture. You can hone your communication skills by contributing to research publications and running workshops and events to build a network of researchers and practitioners. You will hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject, ideally with experiences on managing UKRI projects. Some knowledge of mobile intelligence and pervasive computing would be highly desirable.
