6 month opportunity in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Royal London. Post to commence in August 2024.

This is a unique opportunity to join the largest hospital in the country .This is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated candidates to join an enthusiastic department which has had and continues to pursue numerous exciting service development opportunities.

The post will provide ideal opportunities to enhance the portfolio of the successful candidate and assist in their career progression, as well as the chance to connect and work with consultants across the Barts Health sites. Furthermore it will provide well-organised candidates the opportunity to gain valuable clinic and theatre experience and a supportive training environment.

The post is not recognised for post-graduate training but will provide the same educational opportunity and successful candidates are expected to fully participate in the well established postgraduate training program to continue their personal and professional development. Previous candidates have been successful at securing national training numbers (ST3) at national selection interviews.

Contribution to plastic surgery 'on call' service. You will liaise and work with the registrar on-call to clerk and admit patients from A&E. You will have support and supervision from the on-call Registrar and the on-call Consultant. The on call rota is a split shift of nights and days. The rota is currently a 1 in 8, 8 am - 8pm and 8pm to 8.30am. This system is European Working Time Directive compliant. Nights are split into Monday-Thursday and Friday-Sunday.

Continuous care of plastic surgery in-patients, the post holder must work flexibly with colleagues and share the workload.

Participation in ward activities and regular ward rounds with the appropriate Consultant. Currently ward activities are also on a 1 in 8 rotation for a week (Monday-Friday) to ensure best possible training in patient outcomes and continuity of patient care. It is desirable to attend the elective out patient clinics, trauma clinics and theatre sessions whenever possible.

As part of continuing medical education and training required for revalidation and career progression the post holder is expected to attend weekly teaching sessions which take place on Thursdays.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in departmental audit projects and complete a project during each of their 6 month posts. This includes presenting the figures for activity, mortality and morbidity for your team at the monthly local department audit meeting.
