The Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust wish to appoint 3 Junior Clinical Fellows in the Adult Intensive Care on the Chelsea site, to commence in August 2024 in line with the upcoming trainee rotation. The posts would be initially for six months but these can be extended by mutual agreement with the dept.

The positions will allow the post holders to gain experience in adult intensive care. Clinical duties will be based in the general intensive care and burns intensive care.

There will be an on-call commitment to intensive care.

There will also be time and opportunity to participate in quality improvement projects, research and teaching projects. Support for exams, special interests and training applications can be provided. The applicant should be registered with the GMC and have completed Foundation Training or equivalent.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC registration.

Provide High Quality Care to Patients

Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post. Develop clinical practice through self-reflection and learning from experience, application of research into practice and active contribution within the multi-disciplinary team.

Research, Teaching and Training

To contribute to training and teaching of medical trainees, medical students, other doctors in training and other staff groups.

Research Opportunities

Excellent research opportunities are available throughout the Trust and with Imperial College. A number of funding opportunities are available from the Trust Research Committee.

Governance

Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented. Participate in ensuring NICE, NSF, CNST and other national guidance requirements are reviewed and implemented in the speciality areas. Ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to. Keep fully informed about best practice in the speciality areas. Role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team and adhere to the Trust Infection Control measures (available on the Trust Intranet).

Report all clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly, and co-operate accordingly with any investigations undertaken.

Medical Staff Accountability

Work with colleagues to ensure junior doctors’ hours are compliant with EWTD, New Deal & 2016 Junior Doctors Contract. Adhere to Trust / department guidelines on leave, including requesting and reporting absence, and study leave. Participate fully in regular departmental activities including department meetings and team building activities.

All duties must be carried out under supervision or within Trust policy and procedure. You must never undertake any duties that are outside your area of skill or knowledge level. If you are unsure you must seek clarification from a more senior member of staff.

Leadership and Team Working

Participate in any necessary management and leadership development courses as required by the Trust. Work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Seek to resolve any conflict or differences of opinion through mediation, negotiation and discussion involving appropriate parties.

Appraisal

The post holder is required to participate in the annual appraisal system in line with the Trust’s appraisal guidelines. Individual appraisal interviews will be held annually and reports, submitted to the Medical Director and HR Director. You are expected to inform yourself of the annual timetable for appraisal and ensure that appropriate time is set aside to update your portfolio.

Communication

Ensure all communication, which may be complex, contentious or sensitive, is undertaken in a responsive and inclusive manner, focusing on improvement and ways to move forward. Ensure all communication is presented appropriately to the different recipients, according to levels of understanding, type of communication being imparted and possible barriers such as language, culture, understanding or physical or mental health conditions.
