Summary

The School of Humanities, Social Sciences & Law is a dynamic, modern and integrated school that brings together a range of disciplines from across the social sciences, humanities and related professional programmes. The School comprises five Divisions: Dundee Law School; Education & Society; Energy, Environment & Society; Humanities; and Psychology. Our mission is to build a high-quality and inspirational environment for education, research and social impact that will be known for its innovative approaches to the human and cultural sciences, and for addressing the major challenges faced by society in their local, national and global contexts.


The School is one of the largest of the eight Schools in the University, comprising approximately 300 academic and professional services staff. It delivers education provision to approximately 5500 students which is 30% of the overall student population.


As a result of this coming together, there was the opportunity to bring together professional services from each of the original schools into one optimised, integrated structure which will enhance the overall academic performance of the subjects in the school as well as underpinning a marked improvement in the financial sustainability of all education and research activities in these areas.


It is the role of the School Executive Administrator to provide high level administrative support for the Executive within the School and associated activities within the busy and diverse School Operations Office.


Your priorities will include:



  • Working under the direction of the School H&S Officer and Deputy School Manager to ensure the School operates in a safe and compliant way.

  • Ensure effective administration of the Health and Safety functions of the School, including maintaining accurate records, databases and supporting promotion of online training courses.

  • Ensure effective communication within the School to all staff and doctoral students is maintained, including email communication and visual e.g. noticeboards and signage.

  • Working with academic and professional services colleagues within and out with the School, support co- ordination of the activities related to the People & Culture and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion agenda and initiatives.

  • Support the School Executive Officer with staff recruitment related activities.

  • ability to interact positively with people at all levels in a dynamic academic environment;

  • experience of working in a busy office environment;

  • proficient in the use of standard software packages and University systems.
