Who we are
We are the independent regulator for the social work, social care and children and young people workforce in Scotland. Our work means the people of Scotland can count on these services being provided by a trusted, skilled, confident and valued workforce.

We protect the public by registering this workforce, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, we can investigate and take action.

About the role
As our Chief Executive and working in partnership with the Council, you will lead the vision and strategic direction of the SSSC to deliver its purpose; to protect people who use services, raise standards of practice, and strengthen and support the professionalism of the social service workforce.

Building and maintaining our profile amongst external stakeholders, including Scottish Government, you will ensure SSSC continues to play an active and influencing role in the policy debate regarding workforce development, registration and regulation and is recognised as a valuable, effective, and impactful organisation

We require an accomplished Chief Executive who will lead the vision and strategic direction of our organisation, delivering a customer-focused approach that will ensure the delivery of the SSSC’s key priorities. In addition to ensuring robust corporate governance and prudent financial management, you will oversee the expansion of the Register and promote an outcome-based approach that publicises the added value of the SSSC. Your role in maintaining and raising the organisation’s overall profile with external stakeholders will ensure the SSSC continues to be recognised as a valuable, effective, and innovative organisation.

As a values-driven and inspiring leader with highly developed coaching, negotiating and influencing skills, you will bring a strong customer focus, a desire to deliver continuous improvement and excellent partnership working and stakeholder management experience. Politically astute and appropriately sensitive, you will be able to demonstrate a level of understanding regarding the social services agenda that will allow you to quickly establish credibility both internally and externally.

This role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to lead a national organisation with links across the regulatory bodies in the UK and work closely with Scottish Government to directly contribute to national developments in the sector.

Why work for us
We are an ambitious, enthusiastic and supportive organisation. With around 300 employees, you can really make an impact here. We offer a generous salary, flexible working arrangements, a full range of benefits, local government pension scheme and up to 43 days holiday (dependent on service).

You can find out more about the benefits of working here.

SSSC embraces agile working and whilst our offices are in Dundee, we encourage remote working and support a less office-based format. That said the successful candidate would be expected to travel to Dundee in line with business needs.
