About the role:

Powys County Council is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and creative individual to support a project to support the service to review options for the delivery of effective and sustainable services for children and young people who are referred to our Front Door.(1st point of contact for all referrals)



Powys Children’s Services Front Door is a county wide team, providing the first point of contact for approaches to Children’s Services. In line with our statutory duty under the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014, the Front Door provides information, advice, and assistance to both the public and to external agencies. An effective Front Door is critical to ensure that children, young people, and families in Powys receive information, advice and assistance in a timely way, with children and young people effectively safeguarded from harm.

The project will explore different models and ways of delivering this service within the broader context of efficiency and sustainability. The role will involve the successful candidate undertaking research and gathering information about different models /approaches both locally and nationally and benchmarking by gathering information on how other local authorities deliver services in this area. The role will also include supporting the service in consultation and gaining feedback from key stakeholders.

About you:

Have an interest in Social Services and Wellbeing services.
Be competent in the use of information technology.
Some experience of basic research at an under-graduate level.
Work as part of a team but also able to work independently when required.
Be a good communicator, both orally and in writing.
Be able to work flexibly, able to find creative solutions to problems in collaboration with others.
What you will do:

Support the Project leads to Scope and develop a Project Plan
Contribute to a review of available research and literature which is relevant to delivery of ‘Front Door type services / First point of contact, including:
identifying good practice - supported by project leads.
Gathering information through liaising with other Local Authorities to understand their models of delivery, what works well and good practice. This will include developing a questionnaire or consultation document to enable analysis and comparison.
Support the project leads to gather feedback and undertake consultation with key stakeholders.
Act as a role model for the Council’s vision and values, behaving in ways that encourage and support others to do so too.
