Summary
About the role:
The role is an opportunity to learn about how countryside
access and nature recovery work are managed by
Powys County Council. The successful candidate will
receive a broad ranging experience of working with
different team members on varied tasks, from using
mapping software to learning practical skills. This will
complement the successful candidate's studies around
countryside management, conservation or a related field.

1.Enthusiasm and interest in countryside access and greenspace management and nature recovery
2.Ability to work positively with other people
3.Willingness to be adaptable and able learn new tasks and skills
4.Good IT skills e.g. MS Teams, Excel, email and MS Word
5.Able to follow verbal and written instructions on a range of technical tasks
Able to access remote rural locations, on foot often over difficult terrain, with access to a vehicle and able to drive to remote sites or pickup points
What you will do:
Work both independently and under the direction to carry out a range of practical tasks on the public rights of way network and public greenspace across the county of Powys (outside the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.)
Take part in the preparation for and delivery of practical work days, with volunteers. This includes manual handling of materials, equipment and tools and installation of bridges and gates.
Support the team with a variety of map based tasks including entering information about path survey findings and work completed on the network onto the GIS linked countryside access management database.
Receive training to carry out survey work on public paths independently.
Work alongside the team to support with project management, grant funding and communication related tasks around the Powys Nature Recovery Action Plan and Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
