Summary

Introduction:
Birmingham Newman University is seeking an enthusiastic Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Computer Science to join our dynamic and expanding Computer Science subject. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including specialisations in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Bioinformatics, Business Analytics, FinTech, and Digital Technology. As part of our School, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality education and fostering the growth of this vibrant subject area.
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will:
• Lead and deliver leading Computer Science curriculum across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Engage in the continuous development of programme content to ensure relevance and impact in rapidly evolving fields like AI, Data Science, and Cybersecurity.
• Implement innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning experiences and outcomes.
• Contribute to research and development within the Computer Science department, aligning with the latest industry and academic advancements.
• Supervise student projects, providing expert guidance and support.
• Foster a collaborative learning environment that encourages curiosity and innovation among students.
• Develop and maintain external partnerships to enhance educational programmes and create opportunities for student employability and research collaboration.
Responsibilities:
• Design and deliver engaging coursework that integrates current trends and technologies in Computer Science.
• Actively participate in the development and growth of the department through curriculum innovation and academic leadership.
• Engage in scholarly research activities, contributing to the body of knowledge in Computer Science and related specialisations.
• Support and mentor students as an Academic Person Tutor, offering academic advice and professional development insights.
• Contribute to the department’s outreach and recruitment efforts, showcasing the value and opportunities within our Computer Science programmes.
Qualifications:
For Lecturer:
• A Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in two or more specialised areas of Computer Science.
• Experience in delivering high-quality training, teaching or student supervision.
• A commitment to ongoing professional development and engagement with the Computer Science community.
For Senior Lecturer, in addition to the above:
• Significant experience in delivering high-quality teaching and student supervision.
• A strong track record of research and publication in recognised forums within the discipline.
• Experience in curriculum development and academic leadership.
• Proven ability to secure funding for research or educational initiatives or knowledge exchange projects.
