Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Web Content Designer to join our busy Web Content Team within Web Services. The role, based in External Relations will provide support for the Web Content Team to maintain and develop the University's external website (www.dundee.ac.uk), the University's primary marketing, recruitment, and communications channel.

You will also occasionally be asked to work on other University websites as required.

You will be responsible for editing, writing, and publishing content in a clear, relevant, and accessible manner while developing an engaging user experience for the University's targeted audiences. You will work closely with content owners to create and maintain web pages and site sections in line with the University's brand, marketing, and communications objectives. As part of the team, you will help to enforce web and digital standards while implementing the University's governance framework and digital policy to minimise reputational and financial risk.

Principal Duties:

  • Use content design methods to create website content that meets the needs of users.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand their objectives and gather content requirements.
  • Engage with subject matter experts to create content.
  • Create content plans to define project deliverables and timescales.
  • Use data, research, and evidence to review and evaluate content to make improvements.
  • Help plan and define website information architecture based on evidence, research, and best practice.
  • Take a leading role in defining, implementing, and championing University content standards and the content style guide.
  • Help create and define content governance policies and procedures.
  • Undertake periodic website audits and use analytics data to provide guidance and feedback to clients on content performance.
  • Support content publishing within the University content management system (CMS)
  • Lead on the delivery of content training for CMS users and the creation of associated training materials
  • Advise and guide academics and researchers in developing research web content.
  • Work with Corporate Communications and Marketing teams to ensure content is published and promoted effectively on the website.
  • To undertake other additional duties from time to time as necessary.

Person Specification:

  • The person We are seeking a highly motivated and articulate individual who has excellent verbal, writing, editing and proofreading skills together with a thorough understanding of organising information for publishing on the web.
  • You will have experience and knowledge of content management systems for the web as well as a good understanding of search engine optimisation, web standards, usability and accessibility.
  • You will demonstrate a proactive approach, combined with the ability to multitask and deliver across several key digital projects with efficiency, attention to detail and professionalism.
  • You will have excellent customer service and problem-solving skills and be able to communicate confidently and diplomatically with staff at different levels across the organisation to form successful and productive working relationships.
