Summary


Role Summary:
• The overriding purpose of the role is to improve the lives of people with learning disability and offending behaviour in forensic placement, through the provision of an excellent service, promoting recovery and well-being and delivering the highest quality of patient care possible.
• Participating in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, to compassionately meet patient needs and that of their families and carers.
• To be professionally accountable and responsible for care delivery, undertaking clinical/therapeutic interventions as required.
• To be compassionate in meeting the needs of patients and their families/carers.
• To act as a named nurse, lead professional and co-ordinate patient care.
• To be responsible for the day to day running of the unit and take charge in the absence of management on the unit.
• To support unit management to continuously improve care delivery and strive to promote a positive image of the Forensic Service and the wider Trust.
• To be committed to and involved in activities integral to the service and Trust’s quality improvement systems.

The main roles of the job are to participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, to compassionately meet patient needs and that of their families and carers. To act as a named nurse/lead professionals for patients and compassionately deliver the care they need, being accountable and responsible for this care delivery.

Upholding high professional standards and responsibility for continuing professional development and revalidation as a first level nurse registration.

Understanding and participating in risk assessment and management plans is vital with the Forensic service, ensuring that all relevant documentation and care plans are up to date and fit for purpose.

Role modelling is essential, and a professional attitude is required at all times, especially when working with the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, CPA, Transforming Care Agenda and CTR processes. Engaging with relevant training for these and also the See Think Act security Training and PBS would be mandatory.

Acting as a mentor for students and being up to date to be able to influence their best practice would be a requirement of the post.

Occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances due to the complex presentation and history of the patient group, which may result in verbal or physical abuse, management skills are essential with the ability to manage personal emotional responses and those of others when in the working environment.
