This opening assignment is for 3 months
City: EXETER
This post is cutting grass with a hand mower for 8 hrs daily, therefore candidates must be physically fit. Undertake cleansing and grounds maintenance services to keep the city looking good.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible within an identified area and as part of a team
Respond to and resolve simple issues that arise on a day to day basis and to highlight other issues to the Public and Green Space Team Leader
Report issues adversely affecting the look and feel of the public realm such as damaged streetscene or greenspace furniture, fly-tipping, stray dogs, dog fouling, abandoned cars, littering, illegal use of council land, bins left on pavements etc
Inform members of the public and businesses about your work and help them with their queries and complaints
Undertake training on the safe use of equipment and safe working practices and to achieve consistently good performance
Take part in the exchange of ideas and participate in future improvements.
Undertake work in a safe and effective manner at all times, following City Council policies and procedures, and to be responsible for your safety and that of the public
Use IT solutions that support mobile working and efficient responses to demand.
Undertake basic recording of information e.g. play equipment checks or timesheets.
Work flexibly at evenings and weekends when required to meet the demands of the service

Qualifications:
Good general standard of education to GCSE standard in two suitable subjects (Maths and English preferred)
Full Driving licence
Experience:
Experience of cleansing, horticulture, grounds maintenance services or similar outdoor activities
Experience in operating cleansing or grounds maintenance equipment
Experience of implementing and maintaining safe systems of work
Skills & Abilities:
Good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to remain calm, patient and polite when confronted with difficult situations
Good organisational skills
Able to work as part of a team and undertake the full range of duties
Able to use mobile communication devices
Able to prioritise work
Able to undertake lengthy daily foot patrols, negotiate stairs and heights, access difficult terrain such as woodlands, carry moderately heavy equipment and undertake the full range of manual duties as part of a team in a demanding outdoor environment
Robust and self motivated, able to work on own initiative
