Temporary Public & Green Spaces Operator – Manual Labour

Pay Rate: £11.98 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, 7.30am to 4pm

Role Length: This opening assignment is for up to 7-8 months

City: Exeter, Devon

Candidates must be prepared to work out of normal working hours when required

The purpose of the role is to undertake cleansing and grounds maintenance services to keep the city looking good.

Key responsibilities:

Grounds maintenance and vegetation management tasks such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, shrub bed maintenance including pruning, and weed spraying etc often using powered pedestrian and hand-held equipment.
Graffiti removal using chemicals or powered equipment.
Mechanical sweeping.
General maintenance of sports pitches, tennis courts and other outdoor sports facilities.
As demand dictates, removing litter, emptying litter bins, removing small amounts of graffiti, trimming or removing weed growth and overhanging shrubs, cleaning public toilets etc.
Respond to and resolve simple issues that arise on a day to day basis and to highlight other issues to the Public and Green Space Team Leader.
Report issues adversely affecting the look and feel of the public realm such as damaged streetscene or greenspace furniture, fly-tipping, stray dogs, dog fouling, abandoned cars, littering, illegal use of council land, bins left on pavements etc.
Inform members of the public and businesses about your work and help them with their queries and complaints.
Undertake training on the safe use of equipment and safe working practices and to achieve consistently good performance.

Qualifications:

Good general standard of education to GCSE standard in two suitable subjects (Maths and English preferred).



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Able to work as part of a team and undertake the full range of duties.
Must have gardening/horticultural experience.
Able to use mobile communication devices.
Experience of cleansing, horticulture, grounds maintenance services or similar outdoor activities.
Experience in operating cleansing or grounds maintenance equipment.
Experience of implementing and maintaining safe systems of work.
Able to demonstrate a reasonable level of literacy and numeracy.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
