Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Training and Development Team within the Maternity Department.

As Maternity Education Support Worker, the aim of the role is to support with implementing education, training and practice development strategies for the wider workforce in particular Maternity Support Worker (MSW’s) and Assistant Practitioners (APS). The role will also require you to provide bespoke and accessible pastoral support to the maternity support worker workforce.

The Maternity Education Support Worker, will work closely with the Practice Development Midwife & Retention Midwife, to ensure National and Local Agenda are embedded within the practice of our MSW’s and will offer support to ensure evidence based skills and training is maintained to a high standard.

Support the Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Development Team in implementing education, training and practice development strategies for the healthcare support worker workforce in particular Maternity Support Workers (MSWs).
Provide accessible/ bespoke pastoral support to the healthcare support worker workforce.
Support the concept of continuing professional development through supporting the delivery of relevant programmes of education and training across the maternity support worker workforce. This will include supporting essential to job role training, at point of care
training, induction programme and other relevant developmental.
Support the maternity support worker workforce in career progression via education and mentoring. Support the Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Team in the monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of education, training and development across the healthcare support worker workforce.
Work clinically alongside the healthcare support worker workforce and assist in their development by promoting and delivering education practice and the implementation of policies to ensure a workforce ‘fit for purpose’ and ‘fit for practice’.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND CLINICAL PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT
To support the Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Development Team with the delivery of
mandatory / statutory / induction and essential to role training for the maternity support
worker workforce (MSWs and Assistant Practitioners) in line with Trust policy and
Professional and National standards (including Health Care Assistant Code of Conduct)
Assist with teaching clinical skills appropriate to role and post holder’s skill level
Assist with assessing clinical skills in practice using the Trust’s assessment tools in line
with the scope of practice for the maternity support worker workforce
Assist with cascade training for new medical equipment where
Trust policy allows and in line with the scope of practice for the healthcare support worker
workforce.
Maintain clinical credibility and visibility by working in the practice setting in the support of
staff caring for patients when and where it is appropriate to the role.
Act as a clinical role model in the delivery of evidence-based practice when delivering
ward-based training and support.
Ensure clinical teaching rooms / simulation areas are set up in a timely way with the
appropriate equipment to deliver the training sessions
