Summary


We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Registered Practitioner, who is experienced in Safeguarding Adults to join the Safeguarding team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

A great opportunity has arisen for registered professionals with experience in safeguarding to join the Adult Safeguarding Team at NUH.

The post available is for 0.6 WTE, 22.5 hours per week which is a substantive post.

Flexibility will be required to work across the adults, children’s and midwifery safeguarding teams where required.

The post holder will be required to attend clinical areas to support patients and clinical teams.

The post holder will need to be able to receive, convey and present complex information written and verbal, formally and informally as appropriate. They will work to Trust policies and procedures and within safeguarding legislation. They will work together with the Named Professionals in the development of evidence based patient care policies and procedures/audit.

To deliver safeguarding education and training across the trust.

The applicant will need an awareness of the mental capacity act, deprivation of liberty safeguards and the mental health act.

Clinical

To assist with raising the profile of safeguarding adults and children, domestic abuse, mental capacity act, deprivation of liberty safeguards and the mental health act across NUH. A working awareness of the Children’s Act 1989/2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018.

Provides effective and appropriate support and specialist advice to trust staff, patients and carers following a suspicion of or a disclosure of abuse and/or neglect.

To assist ward staff, trust wide, with day-to-day safeguarding of adults and children and domestic abuse issues acting in a consultative and advisory capacity.

To provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and confidential information in relation to safeguarding.

Will be required to analyse and interpret data which may conflict and provide options.

To facilitate and support staff in accurate completion of all safeguarding documentation.

To liaise closely with other health, social care professionals, police and legal departments to ensure a co-ordinated approach and high quality care is provided, including attendance at case conferences and reviews if appropriate.

To represent NUH at external meetings where required, including attendance at the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)

Becomes an effective resource to clinical teams trust wide to provide safeguarding adults supervision for staff members involved in safeguarding cases.

Effectively communicates with multi-professional and multi-agency teams.

Works with the Adult Safeguarding Lead, Safeguarding Adult Team Leader, Specialist Nurse for Safeguarding/Domestic Abuse and the Named Doctor for safeguarding at Nottingham University Hospitals to maintain and utilise links within local and national networks.

To provide feedback and supervision for staff involved in adult safeguarding cases.

Assist staff to achieve the delivery of a high quality service from identification of concern to a safe discharge, through assessment, diagnosis, referral, treatment and review.

Assist in the implementation of systems to measure and achieve high standards of clinical quality.

To contribute to the development of multi-agency and trust wide policies and procedures within their specialist field.

Contributes to audit process in conjunction with wider safeguarding team.

Professional

Is a credible, accountable practitioner within the remit of safeguarding adults, working independently but managed by the adult safeguarding lead.

Accept personal responsibility for identifying own learning needs and professional development and demonstrate a commitment to develop skills, practice and knowledge within the speciality.

Ensure that you maintain confidentiality at all times.

Training

In conjunction with the Adult Safeguarding Lead, continue to maintain and implement a Trust wide safeguarding training strategy.

To deliver the safeguarding adults training across the Trust with the support of the adult safeguarding lead.

To supervise students as required.

To record, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the safeguarding training strategy, ensuring all staff has access to the level of education and training required.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead, disseminate information Trust wide from serious case reviews and evaluate lessons learned within NUH.

To participate in formal and informal education for all members of staff within NUH as needs dictate.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead liaise with and provide relevant information to clinical teams and other staff across the trust, particularly in relation to staff members accessing safeguarding adults training.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead, ensure that specialist knowledge is disseminated and shared across the clinical areas.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead contribute to annual report.

Governance and Risk

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead and team, ensure that all untoward incidents and near misses reported by staff to the Safeguarding team are followed up and appropriate action plans are developed and monitored, and lessons are learned and disseminated.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead contribute to the long-term strategies of the Service, including service reviews and developments.

Be aware of local risks and in conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead implement systems and processes that create and maintain a culture which actively promotes staffs’ contribution to the development and delivery of clinical governance and risk management objectives.

Support clinical staff in assessing and ensuring a quality environment for patients with safeguarding concerns as required. Ensure all patients are treated with respect, privacy and dignity.

Healthcare Standards

Participate in a programme of audit is in place to assure that key policies and practices are being implemented appropriately.

Provide a role model for others to emulate, working alongside colleagues and exhibiting high standards of professional behaviour and dress including the wearing of uniform.

Challenge in a positive manner, current working practices and promote a culture of continuous improvement

Communication

Have frequent visible contact with staff, patients and their carers, and provide feedback about the Trust services in relation to mental health and learning disability, ensuring that concerns that are raised are dealt with quickly and efficiently, ensuring excellent and effective communication takes place.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead establish and maintain communication with appropriate stakeholders on potentially complex and stressful topics in a range of situations in a manner that is understandable and is likely to achieve engagement.

The post-holder will also promote professionalism amongst staff and will undertake clinical work to maintain their professional competence, authority and credibility.

Be proactive in seeking patients’ views and ensure that feedback from patients is valued and acted upon and lessons disseminated, to enable changes in practice if they are necessary.

Continuously seek patient feedback to improve services and care standards.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead attend specific committees/working parties as requested.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead network with other Trusts providing similar services in order to identify and share areas of good practice at national and local level.

Education, Research and Practice Development

Ensure that opportunities to share learning and experience between the multi-disciplinary team are promoted to ensure good communication and utilisation of relevant information.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead create, maintain and develop a culture to enable and support staff to undertake and disseminate research as well as apply evidence based practice.

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead participate in the review and update of clinical policies and protocols in order to reflect the latest evidence.

Actively encourage the use of clinical and other performance information to improve the quality of patient care

In conjunction with the adult safeguarding lead ensure appropriate systems are in place to develop, implement and monitor agreed standards, guidelines, policies and practices to support care provision and service delivery and regularly review the results with the relevant sister/charge nurse facilitating the implementation of changes to practice.

To participate in personal objective setting and review, including the creation of a personal development plan, revalidation and the Trust’s appraisal process.

To co-operate with Nottingham University Hospitals (NHS) Trust in ensuring that statutory regulations, codes of practice, local policies and departmental health and safety rules are adhered to.

To comply and adhere to individual and role specific responsibilities as stated in the Trust Health and Safety Policy and all other Health and Safety related policies.

To immediately report to their manager any shortcomings in health and safety procedures and practice.

To report any accidents or dangerous incidents to their immediate manager and safety representative as early as possible and submit a completed accident/incident form.

To use protective clothing and equipment as required.
