The Pharmacy Department at Royal Cornwall Hospital is delighted to be able to offer this exciting position in our Digital Medicines team. The award winning RCHT Digital Medicines team is one of the national leaders in digital pharmacy systems and has successfully rolled out our EPMA solution across Cornwall in a unique partnership with our sister Trust.

The Trust is about to embark on the implementation of its new Electronic Patient Record (EPR). This challenging programme is the largest clinical system transformation programme the Trust has undertaken and is key to the Trust’s Strategy and aims to fundamentally transform ways of working.

This role will be the strategic lead for the Digital Medicines programme across Cornwall, forming strong partnerships with other Trusts, external organisations and the ICS. They will lead on the promotion, innovation and transformation of clinical and operational services across all health professions where medicines are involved. The Digital Medicines team will be working closely with other clinical teams and Cornwall IT Services to implement a new EPR across Cornwall over the next 2 years.

As Chief Pharmacy Information Officer (CPIO) you will take a strategic digital leadership role supporting the Trust’s strategic objectives and medicines management strategies to facilitate the delivery of excellent, safe patient care through the digitalisation of services and service delivery. The CPIO is predominately a transformational role, pioneering new ways of working and the “art of the possible”. They will lead on the promotion, innovation and transformation of clinical and operational services through the use of information and technologies across medical, nursing, midwifery, allied health professionals’ workforces to support and improve:
• Patient outcomes and efficiency.
• Integrated care across partners and commissioners.
• Digital empowerment of patients and citizens.

As the Trust’s CPIO, you will play a pivotal role in the implementation, ongoing support, maintenance, and development of the Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) functionality of the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record (EPR). You will lead on ensuring the safety of the electronic prescribing solutions utilised within the Trust. This is a highly specialised, technical, and clinical role requiring in depth knowledge and understanding of the configuration of both the EPR system and its interaction with all other prescribing and pharmacy Trust digital systems, and clinical pathways.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We serve a population of around 500,000 people - a figure that can increase significantly with

visitors during the busiest times of the year. We employ approximately 6,700 staff and have a budget of approximately £580 million.

Keeping at the forefront of medical advances, we are continually developing our clinical services as well as our facilities and are committed to maximising the range of specialist care that can be offered locally. Allied to this is a growing reputation for research and innovation.

Please see the attached job description for full details.

The Chief Pharmacy Information Officer will initially focus on the implementation of the eCare project as the Trust transitions from its existing electronic systems (including ePMA) to Oracle Health/Cerner EPR system.

Following implementation, the role will focus on optimisation of the EPR system and the wider county wide medicines optimisation agenda.
