Summary


We are looking foranenthusiastic colleague to join our dynamic service within Barts Health NHS Trust.Thisis anew post based at Newham University Hospital (NUH) linked for a maximum of 10 PAs (programmed activities).It isdesigned to enhance the in- & outpatient service and increase endoscopiccapacityand the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work within these areas. Applicants are encouraged to develop a sub-specialty interest.Newham Hospital is a busy district general hospital with a major undergraduate teaching role, serving one of the youngest and most ethnically diverse populations in the UK. We are committed to comprehensive specialistgeneralgastroenterology,IBD,hepatology and nutritionand arekeen to have applicants who wish to develop a sub-specialty interest. The post holder will be based on 1 site but depending on the individual’s interests, there could be the opportunity to work across other sites.

The clinical responsibility of the post includes ward rounds, outpatient clinics,endoscopy lists and regular departmental meetings.The post is offered over fivedaysand you will be part of the general medical on callrota(currently1:18 but working towards 1:24)and GI bleed on-callrota(currently1:6). We are open to discuss any specific orspecialisedjob plansthat thecandidatesmaydesire, including flexible/less thanfull timeworking. The department strives to achieve a collective work ethos to help tomaintainlong term sustainability to work-life balance.Office space and secretarial support will be available. The post holder will support the delivery ofgastroenterology consultant of the week which will involvereviewofin-patientsand administrative work including referrals and vetting of requests.During this time routine clinical activity is cancelled.

We are integrated with General Medicine and operate specialist age related (under 75) acute medical wards. We run busy, diverse outpatient clinics based within Newham hospital in gastroenterology and hepatology. Our endoscopy unit performs diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy. It is a busy unit that carries out 3000 gastroscopies and 1800 Colonoscopies every year. ERCP is now based at the Royal London Hospital site. We have a reputation for providing excellent endoscopic training and this post is highly sought after by gastroenterology trainees on the NCEL training program. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the out of hours’ endoscopy and general medical on call rota and training of junior staff.
