Who are we? We are a Dietetic Department at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire based just under 10 minutes from the M69/M6 interchange. We are diverse in both skill and experience but also in personnel. Our Oncology Team provides input alongside our Multi Disciplinary Teams to patients who have had a diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal, head and neck, hepatobiliary, haematological and other cancers.

Who are you? We are looking for an experienced Band 7 Senior Specialist Dietitian working full-time within our Oncology Dietetic Team at UHCW NHS Trust. The post will provide both clinical and leadership support to the wider Oncology Team which is made up of a number of Dietitians and Dietetic Assistant Practitioners who cover the oncology, haematology & surgical wards, Arden Cancer Centre and Outpatients clinics at at UHCW NHS Trust. The post holder will also hold a clinical caseload.

What can we offer? As a large teaching hospital we cover a range of specialities including stroke, elderly care, cardiology, respiratory, endocrinology, as well as being a major trauma centre. Additionally you will work alongside your colleagues in gastroenterology, critical care, medicine, renal and paediatrics.
• To manage a specialist caseload and provide dietetic advice on the dietary / nutritional management for adult oncology inpatients and outpatients.
• Act as a specialist adviser and educator to other health care professionals and other Dietitians in respect of nutrition support.
• To be responsible for projects and training within the Oncology Dietetic Team.
• To provide support for staff within the Oncology Dietetic Team.
• To operationally manage the Oncology Dietetic Team.
• To working alongside other Senior Colleagues within the Dietetic Department to achieve departmental and Trust objectives.

1. To work autonomously to provide specialist dietetic advice to patients/service users within the Oncology Dietetic Team, their carers and staff including
• Carry out nutritional assessments (interpret clinical condition, considering prognosis and future implications of planned treatment, diet history,biochemical results and use appropriate equipment to measure and calculate anthropometric measurements accurately) to determine nutritional status and required intervention.
• Development of holistic treatment plans (calculation of nutritional requirements, analysis of nutritional intakes sometimes using specialist IT systems, client centred goals and discharge planning including patients on artificial nutritional support).
• Prescription of dietary treatment and ACBS products for conditions where there are limited professional / clinical guidelines available
1. To be clinically competent to give highly specialist dietetic advice, treatment and dietary counselling to cancer patients in appropriate locations working with clients individually or in groups as appropriate
2. To communicate complex nutrition and dietetic information in an understandable form to staff, clients and carers, requiring negotiation, persuasion, motivation and counselling skills including situations where there are barriers to understanding
3. To use appropriate communication skills and resources to ensure that suitably accessible information is available to individuals on their dietary treatment/care plans
4. To determine service user requirements within cancer care, developing and promoting use of referral guidelines, as appropriate
5. To identify opportunities to promote healthier lifestyles or more appropriate nutrition in cancer care, and, using innovative methods, develop initiatives to promote healthier nutrition in the area, and contribute to the development and delivery of guidelines and action plans
6. To act as clinical lead and a source of expertise on nutrition and dietetics for cancer care & rehabilitation, advising and supporting other members of the multidisciplinary team and other health / care workers as appropriate, helping those who are in a position to provide nutritional advice and influence eating habits within the specialty, aiming to give accurate consistent nutritional messages to client
7. To liaise with various agencies as appropriate (e.g. medical staff, nurses, caterers, carers, external suppliers of enteral feeding products), to enable provision of appropriate nutrition for individuals
