Summary


We are looking to recruit an experienced Ophthalmology Registered Nurse to join the leadership team of our busy Ophthalmology Outpatient Department and Day Theatres based at Peterborough Hospital. The role will provide nursing leadership to an established ophthalmology service which incorporates local anaesthetic operating procedures and a intravitreal injection service.



The role holder will provide clinical leadership and be responsible for the ophthalmology outpatient department and day theatres, in the absence of the department sister. This includes taking charge of the department, co-ordinating, delegating and then continually re-assessing the workload and priorities of each section of the department, whilst supporting/managing the junior clinical and administrative staff.

Provide managerial support including appraisals, health roster management, and working with the operational team to fully optimise clinic capacity.

Working together with the Department Sister and Matron to develop and implement safe, and quality care to our patients.

To ensure that their clinical practice, and that of other staff on shift, is of a safe standard and in accordance with the unit policies.

To advise and lead on nursing issues and resources available to maintain service provision and ensure patients receive optimum care.

To provide expert advice and support for all junior members of staff and colleagues, including the wider multi-professional teams.

To maintain personal clinical expertise through clinical practice and mandatory training.
