Summary

JOB PURPOSE: To assist the trained nurses in delivering the highest standard of patient care by undertaking clinical duties under supervision. Ensuring the cleanliness of the Department as well as the care and maintenance of equipment in line with Hospital policies and procedures. To adhere to relevant policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety and Infection Control to ensure a high standard of efficiency and safety at all times. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: To be aware of and familiar with all appropriate Hospital policies and procedures. To be aware of and maintain high standards of infection control by following appropriate policies and procedures. Participate in providing optimum patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse and raise any issues of concern. Assist the nursing staff in ensuring the Ward environment remains clean and tidy by following Departmental protocols. Maintain both written and electronic records and report any concerns to all relevant personnel. Assist in the maintenance and control levels of Ward supplies. Participate in quality assurance initiatives and audits as required. Communication Communicate and maintain documentation effectively and safely. Liaise with relevant members of the team. Report any accidents or incidents to the nurse in charge of the Department. GENERAL Equality & Diversity Be aware of need for own personal development and be prepared to attend and undertake any necessary training, being aware of the need to develop oneself and to strive to increase personal knowledge. Contribute to making the clinical environment conductive to learning and development where individuals feel able to discuss ideas and action as well as showing initiative. Information Governance All staff have an individual responsibility for creating accurate records of their work and for making entries into and managing all patient records effectively in line with all the Health Record Keeping Policies and Procedures in order to meet the Hospitals legal, regulatory and accountability requirements. Health & Safety To take reasonable care to prevent injury to themselves or others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. To co-operate fully in discharging HMT policies and procedures with regard to health and safety matters. To immediately report to their manager any shortcomings in health and safety procedures and practice. To report any accidents or dangerous incidents to their immediate manager and safety representative as early as possible and submit a completed accident / incident form. To use protective clothing and equipment where provided. Whilst the aim of the hospital is to promote a co-operative and constructive view of health and safety concerns in the organisation, all staff must be aware that a wilful or irresponsible disregard for safety matters may give rise to disciplinary proceedings.
