Summary

Trust Junior Doctor in Acute Medicine - (Ealing)

Fixed term until August 2024

An exciting post is available for a Trust Grade SHO to join our Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Ealing Hospital.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the largest and most successful integrated care NHS Trust’s in the UK, with a team of 9,000 dedicated staff.

Ealing Hospital is a major acute hospital with a busy medical take, and an established reputation for patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions and acuity.

The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is a busy 30-bedded ward, with two acute consultants based on the ward during normal working hours. Successful candidates will join our dynamic team of 5 acute consultants, and twelve acute junior doctors. Acute Medicine has a dynamic and enthusiastic team of acute physicians at Ealing. The department has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in teaching and training.

The post-holder will be expected to be able to provide cover to the unit and to the on-call rota and support the registrars and consultants in AMU in providing medical leadership. It is an excellent opportunity to develop/gain experience in Acute Medicine.

All candidates should be eligible for registration with the GMC.

For any informal queries please contact Dr Riaz Hosein atriazashmead.hosein@nhs.net.

Interviews to be held: TBC.

The post-holder will be expected to be able to provide cover to the unit and be expected to participate in the Medical On-Call rota, involving managing the medical take in the emergency department, and providing on-call ward cover.

This attracts 1A banding and provides the opportunity to develop your leadership in providing out-of-hours cover across the acute hospital.

Clinical – The post holder will be responsible for the regular clinical assessment and management of all patients, in conjunction with consultants and SPRs. Close supervision will be available at all times, but incumbents of the posts will be trained and encouraged to develop initiative in clinical assessment, diagnosis and active management of their patients.

Administrative – The post holder will have a prime responsibility for the regular and accurate documentation of history, examination, clinical progress, and results of investigations.

Communication – The post holder will work closely with nursing staff, physiotherapists and other associated health professionals, and function as a primary point of contact and referral with other medical teams and diagnostic services. Intensive care is a potentially stressful environment and much of the activity occurs out of hours. Appointees will be expected to always communicate effectively and professionally, both with members of the public and with fellow staff of all ranks and disciplines.
