The Kitchen Porter/Steward is responsible for maintaining a very high standard of cleanliness and hygienic state of all kitchens/food preparation areas and into general back of house areas and supporting the kitchen setup, servicing and break down after service and events across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keeping all food preparation areas meticulously clean and tidy.
  • Maintaining safe and sanitary conditions in all food areas eg. fridges, freezers, dry stores etc.
  • Providing courteous and professional service to colleagues as well as looking after the movement, storage and cleaning of all kitchen related equipment.
  • Wash and make ready cooking pots & pans and crockery, cutlery and utensils as required by the chefs and food service teams.
  • Demonstrate a full working COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) knowledge and adhere to all safety measures in the use of any cleaning materials required to operate.
  • Ensure all kitchens are well maintained and cleaned prior to and/or after each daily operation including swift and hygienic removal of rubbish.
  • Assist with inventory control of catering equipment and plateware.
  • Have a full knowledge of cleaning products and keep these areas properly stocked and cleaned.
  • Control linen usage across kitchens, removing soiled items for laundry and refreshing stocks with new inventory as needed.
  • Assist culinary staff when needed.
  • Communicate with your supervisor verbally and through written communication throughout the shift to ensure proper notification and follow through of assigned tasks.
  • Provide prompt, courteous service to culinary and F&B team members while maintaining a friendly and pleasant atmosphere.
  • Maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance in compliance with departmental and company dress code standards.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 1 would be desirable, but training can be provided.
  • Experience in a similar role is desirable, but not essential. However, an energetic and enthusiastic work ethic is essential for this position.
  • Being able to multitask and have good time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner and work as part of a team.
  • Able to cope with working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, standing, walking, stretching, bending and moving for periods of up to 8 hours, and lifting and carrying.
  • The nature of our food service does not have closing times which means flexibility around shifts and finishing needs to be accommodated.
