Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Infection Prevention Nurse Specialist to join our Infection Prevention Team . It is an excellent opportunity for a highly self-motivated individual with a keen interest in infection prevention and control to progress their career in this interesting and challenging field.

You will be responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership to Trust staff as a specialist nurse in infection prevention.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Trust infection prevention & control team and to network with infection prevention staff across the health care service.

Project Fusion is the bringing together of community, mental health and learning disability services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight from 1stMay 2024 into one new organisation named Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Our aim is for everyone to have equal access to our services with the same chance to get better. We understand that over the coming years, the number of people using community, mental health and learning disability services will increase in line with our diverse and growing population in our local communities. We are already responding to the growing need, with more people accessing our services, with increasingly complex needs.

As part of this transition, we are pleased to be able to recruit two band 7 Infection Prevention and Control Nurses to support Community and Mental health and Learning Disabilities Services on the Isle of Wight. The successful candidates would form part of the wider organisations Infection prevention and Control Team while supporting us to deliver day to day infection prevention and control management across the Isle of Wight services. This is an exciting opportunity that can be offered as a Band 6 development post if you do not meet the essential criteria on appointment.



We hope to be able to start the successful candidate prior to the 01 May with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, and by accepting a role you would be agreeing to TUPE to the new organisation along with all other staff across our Community and Mental Health Divisions from 01 May.

Key Responsibilities:
• To provide clinical and managerial leadership to Trust staff as a specialist nurse in infection prevention.
• To develop a knowledge base in all aspects of infection prevention and control.
• To promote and develop evidenced based practice in infection prevention and control
• To minimise Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI) through promotion of effective infection prevention and control practice and standards across the Trust
• To work as part of the Trust infection prevention & control team and to network with infection prevention staff across the health care service.
• To lead by example promoting best practice and maintaining standards in infection prevention and control.
• To minimize HCAI through the promotion of effective infection control standards and practice across the Trust.
• To work flexibly within the demands of the service.

In addition to the above Trained IP&C Nurse (Band 7)
• To be a specialist nurse and manage the infection team in the absence of the Lead nurse.
• To provide clinical and managerial leadership including the review and evaluation of performance in accordance with the Trust’s strategic and business direction to designated trust Staff
• To work in conjunction with the Infection Prevention & Control Teams in the acute sector to contribute to the development of the Infection Prevention and Control Strategy for Community Services
