Summary


We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible Clinical Pharmaceutical scientist experienced in Radiopharmacy to join our multidisciplinary team in Nuclear Medicine at Newcastle Hospitals. The successful applicant will provide specialised expertise in the provision and safe use of radiopharmaceuticals for our comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services.

We are active in research and provide support to for a number of clinical trials and we are working towards increasing the range of radiopharmaceutical that we manufacture.

Our team also plays a role in the provision of teaching for the MSc course in Medical Physics, Newcastle being one of only three accredited teaching centres in England.

The successful candidate will:
• provide specialised expertise in the provision and safe use of radiopharmaceuticals in Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals
• have responsibility for maintaining the Quality Systems for the Radiopharmacy, ensuring compliance with requirements of the ML (Specials) and NHS guidance
• provide scientific support for the future development of radiopharmaceutical manufacture in Newcastle, including investigational medicinal products and the use of new tracers.

We are a large department of nearly 50 staff, including Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists, Consultant Radiologists, nurses and clerical staff. We work across two major hospitals, Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital, and carry out around 18,000 procedures per year. We manage two radiopharmacies and have specialties in paediatrics, cancer, cardiac and neurology.

Main duties:
• To act as deputy quality assurance manager for all radiopharmaceutical production within the Trust.
• To manage change control, deviations and recalls including determination of CAPA and root cause analysis.
• To manage the use of unlicensed products in Radiopharmacy
• To act as COSHH lead for radiopharmaceuticals.
• Contributes to controlling drug expenditure and QIPP initiatives
