Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for 4 enthusiastic doctors to join the current Obstetrics and Gynaecology team as a clinical fellow in one of the six areas of interest at Barts Health NHS Trust for an initial period of 6 months extendable to 12 months and beyond. Interested individuals are invited to apply for appointment to start immediately.

The Experience available to potential candidates include 1 the following 4 areas:
1. High risk maternal medicine
2. Fetal Medicine
3. Early Pregnancy and Ambulatory Gynaecology
4. Maternity Assessment Unit and Triag

The post will be based at Newham University Hospital and while this is a non-training post, the successful candidate will work across the full range of specialist clinics and theatres and will be invited to take part in all the educational opportunities the department has to offer. There may be an opportunity to develop specialist interests including completion of ATSMs if eligible.

Successful candidates will be encouraged to participate in teaching, research, audit and journal club. In line with our commitment to improving the working lives of our junior doctors, the duties and hours are fully compliant with the New Deal initiative.

Individuals will require full GMC Registration and should be post MRCOG part 1. These posts are aimed at UK or Overseas obstetricians at ST 6-7 level and post CCT, and for EU trained individuals with the appropriate level of clinical experience. The successful applicant would join a middle grade rota.

The registrar will have duties will be similar to Specialist Registrar year 6-7. The doctor would be working mostly under the guidance of the obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant.

The post holder is expected to manage all acute obstetrics and Gynaecology emergencies when on call. He will be expected to be proficient in the performance of caesarean section, instrumental vaginal delivery, evacuation of uterus and fetal blood sampling. He is expected to attend and manage patients in the antenatal and gynaecology clinics. He is expected to attend operating lists and manage the patients post operatively under the guidance of the consultant.

The incumbent would be expected to involve him/herself in the audit system within the department.

The doctor would be also expected to teach Senior House Officers and Medical Students and other doctors and Clinical Attachments.

The holder of the post will be occasionally called upon to deal with emergency and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant in consultation with his/her colleagues, both senior and junior.
