Summary


Job Summary

This post is to commence as soon as possible for a duration of 6 months with possible extension. The successful candidate will be based in a general medical ward within the division of medicine and will work shifts covering the hours of 08-17:00 7/7 365 days, each post is a 40 hour contract.

Key Responsibilities

To contribute to the provision of high-quality services for people within general medicine by continual development of practice in the light of evidence-base, and clinical standards. Commitment to maintaining a high quality of service to patients by continual development of practice in the light of research evidence and by audit against clinically relevant standards.

In addition, individual staff has a major role in suggesting and implementing improvement to services and in exercising professional responsibility for both them and their peers within an open “no-blame” culture. To be responsible for the management of patients in general medicine on the wards.

A job plan in regard work distribution will be agreed with the Clinical Director and post-holder on appointment. The job timetable for clinics may vary as per requirement.













Department of General Medicine

There are 271 beds in Integrated Medicine provided at the Manor Hospital including a 5 bedded Coronary Care Unit: a 42 bedded Acute Medical Unit for all emergency medical admissions, 30 bedded Short Stay Unit (SSU), Ambulatory care unit (AEC) with four trolleys and one clinic room and 13 critical care beds.

There are purpose-built Endoscopy and coronary angiography units providing inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services. Outpatient Service facilities are available within the Department of Acute Medicine and are provided from both the main Outpatients Department together with specialist services within Clinical Measurement and Day Hospital, provided from a newly built Diagnostic Treatment Centre.

The successful candidate must possess basic medical degree MBBS or equivalent, full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice, NHS experience, Adult Life support and have completed Foundation Year 1 training or equivalent and be able to demonstrate relevant experience and qualifications to undertake the required duties.

The hospital site was substantially redeveloped between 2007 and 2010 and has 550 acute beds. It also comprises of outpatient, diagnostic and treatment facilities for short stay cases whilst the upgraded older building provides emergency care.

Over the last 12 months more than £50m has been invested in healthcare services across the hospital’s estate which includes two new, state-of-the-art MRI scanners, the creation of a new 22 bedded Intensive Care Unit and a new Obstetric Theatre and expansion of the Neonatal Unit. We have integrated health and social care with the development of seven Integrated Locality Teams. The teams are co-located Community, Social Care staff and Mental Health staff who provide a ‘wrap-around’ service to GP Practices. In December 2018 the Government announced £36m of funding to build a new Emergency Department and 30 bedded Acute Medical Unit. The ED team are working with Interserve Construction on this state-of-the-art development to help us meet increasing patient flow demands.

The new Emergency Department will see a modern-day Emergency Department, offer a combined Urgent Treatment Centre, a co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit as part of the Paediatric Emergency Department and further co-located Radiology Department to include plain film radiology, ultrasonography and computerised tomography. The new AMU ward will house a 30 bedded ward with combined AEC and frailty assessment area.

The trust has also invested £800,000 in mobile technology for staff working within its community teams, a development which has been universally applauded by those teams.

Walsall Healthcare is an active partner in the Black Country Sustainability and Transformation Partnership which brings together more than 10 Healthcare Providers, Local Authorities and four CCGs.

The trust is the host organisation for Walsall Together - an ambitious and exciting program to transform health and social care in the borough. The program brings together local NHS organisations; Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group made up of GP practices across Walsall; Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership Trust and Walsall Council. It also has key representatives from the voluntary sector on board.
