Summary


The successful post holder will work across the Trust and be an integral part of supporting the Trust Dementia and Delirium Strategy.

This is an exciting opportunity to improve the lives, care and experience of those living with dementia or delirium and their carers, during their inpatient admission. We are looking for a nurse with experience of working across patient groups and disciplines, who is enthusiastic, forward thinking and passionate to influence the care of people with dementia.

A key aspect of this role will be assessing patients with suspected or confirmed delirium during the patient’s inpatient stay, supporting best practice for the prevention and management of delirium. In addition the post holder will be expected to provide formal and informal training across the Trust. It is important for the applicant to have excellent communication skills, and be confident working across professional boundaries.

Additionally there are opportunities to work with the Cognitive Neurology Service in providing Nurse led outpatient clinics.

To contribute to the care of People with Dementia and Delirium using services at George’s Healthcare NHS Trust.

To ensure there is awareness of the Dementia Quality Improvement Plan, Dementia Strategy, St George’s dementia and delirium innovations, KPIs and quality standards associated with dementia and delirium across the Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Dementia and Delirium team at St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking to recruit a Dementia and Delirium Nurse who will work alongside the Dementia Clinical Nurse Specialist, existing Dementia and Delirium Nurse and Alzheimer’s Society Support Worker as well as the wider Dementia and Delirium Team. The nursing team work cohesively with the dedicated Leads for Dementia and Delirium, there is a strong MDT approach to the management of this client group.

With nearly 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, they are the largest healthcare provider in southwest London.

Their main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George’s Hospital also hosts the St George’s, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region.

As well as acute hospital services, they provide a wide variety of specialist care and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people.

The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.
