Job Summary:
• The post-holder is responsible for undertaking and recording a comprehensive nursing assessment and planning, delivering and evaluating high standards of evidenced based nursing care to a diverse group of patients.
• Is expected to deliver care without direct supervision. Is accountable for the care delivered and any omissions of care.
• Is expected to teach and supervise more junior staff, students and the non-registered nursing workforce.
• Is accountable for care or any omissions of care that he/she delegates to others
• Is expected to act as role model, delivering care with empathy and compassion as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Exciting opportunities have arisen to join Nye Bevan Unit - our newly established Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) at St George’s Hospital. We are currently able to offer posts for Band 5 Nurses both with experience to work in this emergency setting.

Nye Bevan Unit (NBU) provides a service for the rapid assessment and treatment of a variety of surgical complications and specialities - these include upper gastro-intestinal, colorectal, plastics, ear nose & throat, head & neck, maxillofacial, plastics, urology, trauma & orthopaedics and gynae.

Patients are admitted from the Emergency Department, specialist nurses and GP referrals. Once patients have been assessed they will have a plan of care implemented and be admitted to an appropriate surgical ward, treated on the unit itself, transferred to theatre/ITU or discharged home.

NBU accepts admissions 24 hours a day, seven days a week and works closely with the nine surgical specialist teams. NBU is a fast paced environment consisting of 8 short stay beds, 8 assessment trollies, assessment chairs, HOT clinics, a SDEC and a minor procedures room.

Candidates would be expected to work a 12-hour shift pattern, including days, nights and weekends.

Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases.
