Summary


An opportunity has arisen to join the senior nursing team on Winifred 2 ward.

Winifred 2 is a Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgery ward based at the City Campus, University Hospital Nottingham. You will be part of a well established nursing team with good staffing levels.

It is a 26 bedded ward taking adult patients both male and female from Nottinghamshire and the surrounding counties for specialised treatment of the Upper GI tract.

We have a fast turn over of patients and the ward has acutely ill patients that often have complex needs. We take patients with Epidurals, PCAs, TPN, tracheostomies and chest drains following major surgery.

You must be a first level registered nurse with a current NMC registration.

Candidates should have at least 2 years post registration experience within an acute hospital setting. You must be able to demonstrate leadership skills. Previous surgical experience is preferred.

Candidates should hold current mentorship skills and be able to perform extended roles such as IV administration and preferably be epidural trained.

Once appointed the candidate will be expected to deputise for the Band 7 in her absence and be versed in the role of the Band 7.

The Band 6 role includes coordinating the shift on a daily basis. Ensuring that the flow of patients through the ward from admission to discharge is completed in a timely and safe manner. They will also be responsible ensuring the staff are promoting high standards of care and challenge poor practice. They will also be responsible for rota planning to ensure a safe nurse patient ratio per shift. See person spec for remaining criteria.



Although not routinely expected to work night shifts this is a full time internal rotation post. The candidate will be expected to work Bank Holidays and weekends mainly working long days 07.00 -19.30 on a 4 week rota. There will also be some non clinical shifts to provide time for the candidate to complete any non clinical work.

Support and training for this role will be provided within the established senior team and trust training is also available for this role. A supernumerary period will be offered, during which you will shadow the ward sister and a deputy sister.
