Summary

The Acute Care Unit provides patients admitted to hospital with safe and compassionate care during the first 48 hours of their admission. We aim to support our colleagues and collaborate with other specialities for the good of our patients. The ACU team works closely with the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), primary care, and the full range of specialties based in the hospital. They also provide out of hours cover to adult inpatients. We strive to maintain a mutually supportive and collaborative dynamic with the Emergency Department.

The Acute Care Unit works as a team, and all team members are expected to help colleagues if they are short staffed, or unusually busy. This includes, in certain cases, seeing patients in A&E before they have been seen by the A&E team if they are likely to require medical admission. Please be flexible and accommodating with all the MDT members, and do not hesitate to ask a colleague for help.

Please refer to the Clinical Fellow job description for a detailed overview of both departments and the main duties of the role.
