Summary

Job purpose
To lead, manage, and continuously improve health, safety, and compliance across all projects undertaken by the business, ensuring adherence to UK health & safety legislation, industry best practice, and company standards.
The role will act as the central point of authority for H&S across projects, supporting safe delivery from pre-construction through to completion and handover.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health & Safety Project Manager
a. Health & Safety Policy and Procedures
b. System Administration
c. Site Mobilisation
d. Toolbox Implementation
e. H&S Continuity Plan
2. Document Management
• Oversee all H&S documentation including:
o Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS)
o Construction Phase Plans (CPP)
o Inspection records and audits
• Ensure document control systems are compliant, up-to-date, and auditable.
• Maintain records in line with legal retention requirements.
3. Site Manager Responsibilities (Oversight & Support)
4. First Aid Point of Contact in line with Health and Safety Regulations 1981
• Act as central contact for first aid coordination across sites.
5. Traffic Logistics Co-ordinator
• Develop and manage site traffic management plans.
• Ensure compliance with:
o Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992
• Coordinate safe movement of:
o Vehicles
o Plant
o Pedestrians
• Implement segregation, signage, and control measures.
6. RAMS Point of Contact
• Review, approve, and monitor all Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
7. CPP (Construction Phase Plan) Point of Contact
• Develop, review, and maintain Construction Phase Plans in line with CDM 2015.

8. Fire Safety Lead / First Point of Contact
• Act as the company’s designated Fire Safety Lead and primary point of contact for all fire-related matters across construction sites and company premises.
• Ensure full compliance with relevant fire safety legislation.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) for all active sites and offices, ensuring they are suitable, sufficient, and regularly reviewed.
• Establish and manage site-specific fire safety plans.
• Coordinate fire safety during site mobilisation.
• Act as the central contact for:
o Fire authorities and inspectors
o Client fire safety representatives
o Internal project teams
• Ensure all personnel receive fire safety training and awareness.
• Oversee and enforce hot works permit systems and high-risk activity controls.
• Investigate and report fire incidents, near misses, and hazards, implementing corrective actions and lessons learned.
• Ensure coordination with design teams and Principal Designers regarding fire safety considerations during planning and execution stages.
• Monitor compliance through regular inspections and audits, ensuring continuous improvement in fire risk management.
9. Operations Manual Ownership & Compliance
• Act as the owner and custodian of the company Operations Manual, ensuring it reflects current legislation, industry best practice, and the operational needs of Ammcass Construction Engineering Group.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Operations Manual to incorporate all key functional areas.
• Ensure the Operations Manual aligns with all relevant UK legislation.
• Integrate the Operations Manual with company management systems (e.g. ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 where applicable), ensuring a consistent and auditable approach across all projects.
• Establish robust version control, document management, and change control procedures.
• Deliver training, briefings, and inductions to ensure understanding and application of the Operations Manual across all levels of the business.
• Monitor compliance through audits, inspections, and performance reviews, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
• Act as the central point of contact for all queries relating to company procedures, standards, and operational controls.
• Ensure the Operations Manual supports safe, efficient, and legally compliant project delivery, particularly in the company’s role as Principal Contractor.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
• NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
• Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) preferred
• Proven experience in construction H&S management
• Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and CDM regulations
Experience working for a Principal Contractor
Desirable Criteria • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor
• Temporary Works / Fire Safety / Environmental qualifications
• Experience across residential, commercial, and M&E projects
• SMSDS
