Our mission is to be led by people with Learning Disabilities and autistic people to deliver high-quality housing, support, and activities in their local communities. The people we support tell us that they want “good support from kind and friendly people” – so that is what we are looking for!

Introduction to the role:

We are seeking to recruit a support worker for the Active Lives day service. Active Lives provides positive, meaningful activities for people with learning disabilities and/or autism. Our activities mainly take place during the day, from 8.45 am to 4:45 pm.

These activities we deliver support people’s creativity, wellbeing, health, learning and development. We are certainly keen to recruit staff with skills in various areas, e.g. music, communication or dance. We are always keen to work with staff with a range of skills and interests, e.g., gardening or sports.

The support that we offer can be in small groups or individually, depending on needs and interests. This role does include providing one-to-one support (in the day service). The support we provide also includes travel/escorting to & from activities, medication, and personal care. We ensure all staff are fully trained and supported with this before this occurs. Having reasonable IT skills is an important part of this role.

Brief outline of the role:

We are looking for people who are patient, compassionate, understanding and able to use their own initiative. It is a rewarding and varied role. We really see people grow and change from the support that they receive.

Active Lives activities and projects are delivered in various locations community centres, leisure centres and art venues – including in our current base in Preston Park. You would be expected to work across these different locations. You will work closely with the Active Lives Team Leaders and wider Active Lives team. You will receive a full induction and regular support & training.

From directly speaking to the people that we support, they have told us that they want people who support and work with them to be nice and kind. “We want staff to give us space (when we need it) and be respectful”.

Ideal candidate should have a sense of fun, creativity and imagination – enjoying working with people is key. A love of animals, comedy and/ or storytelling would be great additions to the team.

You will have demonstrable commitment and positive attitude in working with people with learning disabilities and/ or autism.
