Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

Part-time Music Teacher – 1 day a week

to teach the music curriculum across the school from Year 1 to Year 6 (qualified or unqualified teachers will be considered depending on experience)

1 Year Fixed Term Contract in the first instance Start date: 1st September 2026

Post Title: Music Teacher – Part-time – 1 day per week

Reporting to: Senior Leadership Team

THE PURPOSE OF THE POST IS TO:

▪ to deliver the music curriculum across the school from Reception to Year 6

▪ raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the National Curriculum for Music

▪ be accountable for student progress and development within the curriculum area

▪ develop teaching material for music classes.

▪ plan and prepare music classes for pupils across the school

▪ prepare classes/school for larger performances (e.g. nativities, assemblies & productions),

▪ instruct school pupils in vocal and instrumental music.

▪ be involved in the ordering of musical instruments.

▪ store away safety musical equipment and supplies.

▪ show pupils the difference between musical styles such as pop music, jazz and classical.

▪ keep up-to-date about subject development.

▪ run a weekly, whole school hymn practice/choir

Teaching competencies:

▪ Up to date with the latest in music technology.

▪ Ability to quickly establish a rapport with pupils.

▪ Able to motivate pupils to exceed their expectations.

▪ Fully aware of the National Curriculum and of local and national initiatives.

▪ Capable of co-ordinating the resources of the school to achieve maximum efficiency.

Personal:

▪ Possessing a highly motivated, flexible and determined outlook.

▪ Ability to work in a team.

▪ Having an assertive, positive and helpful approach.

▪ Able to manage diversity and inclusion.

▪ Maintain absolute confidentiality and loyalty.

In addition, for the right person there may be scope to:

▪ provide some choir support and musical accompaniment in addition to the 1-day teaching.

▪ take students on outings to musical events.
